KIDNAPPED!!!
Sensational headline but —
Never having been kidnapped; never having kidnapped anyone; hopefully will never be connected in any way with a kidnapping, the subject of kidnapping was promptly dismissed – only to reappear as a vague dark cloud in the back of my mind.
Many are experiencing the nagging impression that the world economy, and their lives, has been kidnapped without any hope of return. Legions are scrambling to make their way in today’s roller-coaster world, hoping to avoid being laid-off, hoping to avoid receiving the thinly veiled suggestion to take early retirement or get nothing, or simply hoping to not be given the proverbial “pink slip”. They are immersed in the dismal world of Reaction and desperation.
Happily there is another world meeting these same indignities, but with a decidedly different response.
This is the world of Entrepreneurs.
Granted, this world too has its “Exit Plans”; doors of large and small businesses closing, long-time family businesses cutting back, companies selling, merging, buying and reorganizing. But for an Entrepreneur, it is only a temporary set-back. This down time is actually seen as an opportunity to take a look inward, both personally and company-wise, and then to dust out the cobwebs of complacency, boredom and mediocrity.
That people do not embrace change quickly or easily is a known fact, but an Entrepreneur takes a deep breath, a profound resolve, and heads for the planning board. Within a few days or weeks, the original plan has been probed, prodded, reviewed, revised and subsequently put back into action.
Key points that come under scrutiny during this transition include:
· The ever-changing needs of the market place
· The company’s core values
· Customer service
· Assurance each product and/or service is cutting edge
· The focus on the target market is sharp and explicit
· Each staff member is well informed and positively involved in all changes
· Each operational system is adjusted for maximum efficiency
· Marketing and sales is leveraged to enhance the new transformation features
Regardless the perceived set-backs, true Entrepreneurs are a hardy lot. While dealing with current obstacles, they do not allow these obstacles to block their view of their potential, or keep them from expanding their business plans and strategy plans as they regain their momentum of success. They understand that to be all they can be, they cannot do everything themselves – and they are not afraid to ask for help.
